CHAPELLE

A sanctuary designed to awaken presence.

Are you awake?  Present, not just alive, but aware. What awakens your senses? What brings you back to yourself? These are questions that kept crossing my mind as my dream of acquiring my first place in Paris became reality.

Chapelle is my most ambitious art project yet. Without any previous experience in renovation or building, I decided to take on this challenge and create a space for functionality and aesthetics.

Through texture, light, shadow, colour, and scent, creating a place designed to awaken the senses and bring us back to the moment.

A dark red, small, low ceiling, entrance leading into a larger, brighter living-room.

A feeling we often encounter when entering a place of worship.

MATERIALS

  • Complete restoration of terracotta tiles dating back to 1880, and the search for matching pieces on the second-hand market.

  • Uncovering and restoring the building’s original beams.

Okoumé plywood used for its texture on wall panels and the kitchen facade.

  • Chrome and stainless steel hardware details, chosen for their durability and modern look.

  • 10x10 cm white imitation zellige tiles, echoing the square skylight in the bathroom.

  • White terrazzo tiles sourced second-hand.
